The House
The House of Representatives consists of 435 elected officials from every state in the union. It is split into 20 standing committees each with sub-committees. The House has the power of the purse, meaning they control the spending and budget of the entirety of the Federal Government. Each Representative is elected for a two year term and now much of those two years is now spent on campaigning and obtaining funding for the next campaign.
The House is divided into committees and subcommittees and within these committees much of the policy making and politicking occurs. The more powerful you are the more influential the committee you are assigned to.
Leadership -Speaker The Speaker of the House is the most powerful individual in the House leadership. The position is voted in by the majority party and the Speaker is generally a senior member of Party leadership. The current Speaker is John Boehner from the Republican Party. -Majority Leader The Majority Leader is the main individual who coordinates with the party whip and other members of the leadership team for the majority part on policy. -Minority Leader The Minority Leader performs the same basic functions as the Majority Leader except his party lost. -Whips The whips are individuals who try to predict how votes will turn out and attempt to influence those same votes to go with their parties policies.
