The Legislative Branch
The Congress of the United States consists of two houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate, with a total membership of 535 persons. These individuals are elected by their specific States, 2 Senators per State and the number of Representatives by total population of the state.
Traditionally the only elected officials were the Representatives and Senators were appointed by the State Legislatures. This was done to appease the Anti-Federalist who desired to disperse power to all the states instead of a central Federal Government. Below is a small gallery of The Capitol and the chambers of Congress.
